MoT allocates Rs 150 crore for tourism projects in Gujarat

Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India announced an allocation of Rs 150 crore for Dwarka, Porbandar and Kabirwad while unveiling a mega tourism project at the Kabirwad on the bank of the Narmada in Bharuch district. According to a report in The Business Standard, the project called 'Mahaparipath' aims to develop a Sufi tourism circuit on the lines of Buddhist and Jain circuits. The Centre would allocate an additional Rs 50 crore over and above Rs 50 crore for the Kabirwad project and Rs 25 crore for Dwarka and Porbandar each.. Read More


TMI to close first round of funding for Vamoose by July 2011

TravelMartIndia (TMI), which launched Vamoose, a group buying portal for travel, leisure and vacation destinations for end consumers recently, is expecting to complete the first round of funding by July 2011. Besides, TMI is planning to tap the Indian inbound segment in the near future. The company is currently in talks with international companies for a tie-up to promote inbound tourism to India. Indian visitor arrivals to Hong Kong increase by 5.1 per cent in Q1 this year

Figures released by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) recently show that in Quarter One of 2011, visitor arrivals to Hong Kong reached 9,707,971, representing a year-on-year growth of 12.6 per cent. As for the month of March 2011, arrivals rose by 13.9 per cent over the previous year to 3,186,871. The arrivals figures from India for the same period stood at 98,277 which is a rise of 5.1 per cent for the corresponding period in 2010. In March 2011, visitor numbers from India stood at 41,068, a 13.8 per cent rise compared to March, 2010.. Read More

Gujarat and Rajasthan join hands to promote tourism

Gujarat government has signed an agreement with Rajasthan to jointly promote tourism in Western India through road shows and events in the country and abroad, as per an IANS report. “It is better to showcase a region on an international level rather than to promote just a state. Domestic wine industry in India grows 300 per cent

India's domestic wine industry expanded nearly 300 per cent in the last decade to an estimated 13.5 million litres annually, a report by the US Department of Agriculture. The report said that India has an estimated 60 functional wineries, with 30 more companies having registered to become wine producers in 2010 in contrast to only six wineries in 2000. It said the growth of domestic wines has been helped by a tariff protection from imported competition in the form of high customs duties and excise rates.. Read More
